Interactive textiles and how my dress visualise the environment and power my mobile.
Friday, 9/09
16:00-19:00
International Design Festival 2011 DESIGN ACT invites you to participate in the workshop devoted to the integration of textiles and digital technologies.
Conductive textiles, flexible electronic schemes, solar cells and LED-lighting, fiber optics, thermochromic paint can change our familiar world. Designers Louise Johannesen and Michael Guglielmi of the Danishstudio Diffus truly believe in it.
How exactly to deal with it they offer to decide together during the workshop to be held on Friday, the 9th of September at 16:00 at DESIGN ACT 2011 festival in Gorky Park.
Everyone is invited: young designers, students and beginners who are interested in modern technology,
in present and future of fashion and textiles. Participants will get to know the very technologies,
examples of their use, and will try to work with them and the fabric using the principle "What you see is what you get!".
Digital technologies are becoming a part of the things image, they start to be one of a means of expression in designer's arsenal.
Please send applications with the brief information about yourself to DA Forum curator Alexander Ostrogorsky: aostrogorsky @designact.ru
Hanne-Louise Johannesen and Michel Guglielmi, Denmark
We know textile better than other materials that we use, this fabric is on us since birthday to the death. But now there are digital technologies that start to be closer for us day by day, they help us to live and entertain us. “What would happen if we unite all these technologies?” – ask the designers Hanne-Louise Johannesen and Michel Guglielmi from the Danish Diffus Design studio. Other participants of the workshop will help them to find an answer: they will check electroconductive textile, flexible electronic schemes, sun batteries and LED-lighters, optical fiber, termochrome paints etc.
If usually designers try to mask the usage of electronica, that workshop has different principle: «What you see is what you get» - digital technologies can be a part of the image, one of the designer's expression tools.
Hanne-Louise Johannesen and Michel Guglielmi, Denmark, Diffus Design
Danish agency Diffus works on the junction of art, design, architecture and new media. It is interested not only in practical decisions but in the search of new paradigms. Only two persons work in this agency: Hanne-Louise Johannesen – historian of art and specialist in new media, and Michel Guglielmi – architect and professor of Danish design school. Diffus agency works on real products and on the conceptual projects investigating new opportunities of materials and technologies. They organize workshops and investigations. Diffus is especially interested in opportunities which give the combination of well-known materials (fabric, concrete, glass) with new technologies.
On the DesignAct Forum they will talk about their project Climate Dress – an elegant dress identifies the level of CO2 in the atmosphere by special sensors and reacts on it with the hundred LED-elements winking. The integration of modern technologies in textile will be the subject of 3hours workshop, hold by Hanne-Louise Johannesen and Michel Guglielmi at DesignAct.
